Ä What are PAHs:
The Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are created during slow and incomplete combustion or during pyrolysis of organic matter. They can be found in soot and fumes, in exhaust fumes from spark-ignition engines, in cigarette smoke, or on meat when cooked with the barbecue…

These compounds have a great affinity for organic compounds and are absorbed easily by solid matters. The PAHs can be found at abnormally high concentrations in the grounds from old factory- sites (gas works, refineries…). Until now, they have been found in the environment, charcoal, coal, tar, treatments of painting, but also in agro-alimentary matrices

Ä PAHs Test Method:
With reference to ZEK 01.2-08 of German ZLS and its amendments, Analysis was performed by Gas Chromatograph / Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS).

Ä PAHs (Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons)
1.         Naphthalene
2.         Acenaphthylene
3.         Acenaphthene
4.         Fluorene
5.         Phenanthrene
6.         Anthracene
7.         Fluoranthene
8.         Pyrene
9.         Benzo(a)anthracene
10.     Chrysene
11.     Benzo(b)fluoranthene
12.     Benzo(k)fluoranthene
13.     Benzo(a)pyrene
14.     Indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene
15.     Dibenzo(a,h)anthracene
16.     Benzo(g,hi)perylene

PAHs maybe found in the environment and consumer goods have been under observation. Today, focus is particularly high on products made up of plastics, such as tool handles, electric cables… Indeed, PAHs can cause irritations of the skin or cancers.
