Andrew Hotchkies, President of Witt Lining Systems, announced today that the company has introduced WITT TPU. WITT TPU is a new polyurethane material that will be added to Witt’s lineup of material choices for flexible liners. “We’ve been looking at these materials for a while and have finally found a formulation that we are positive will provide excellent corrosion resistance and service life in applications not well suited for our PVC materials,” Hotchkies said at the announcement.
WITT TPU is a flexible polyurethane membrane liner primarily designed for containment of fuel, oils, hydrocarbons and fatty acids. Its excellent physical properties lend itself to being very durable and puncture resistant. The cold temperature range of WITT TPU also exceeds that of Witt’s PVC formulations. WITT TPU is FDA compliant and it can be made with an NSF-61 rating as well.
Witt Lining Systems sees a great market for this product in situations where concrete coatings have failed due to penetration of products into a concrete containment area or pit. Hotchkies commented, “Concrete is very porous and once concrete has been saturated with oil or fats it is timely and expensive to make that concrete suitable for a new coating. Because our flexible liners aren’t bonded to the concrete, we can be installed right over top of concrete without great concern of the condition of the substrate. This reduces an incredible amount of installation time and saves our customers money and maintenance down time.”
Hotchkies added that Witt Lining Systems is already fielding applications for their Witt TPU in animal food processing plants, water treatment plants, and food processing plants. “There are many places where our flexible lining technology makes greater sense than a traditional bonded coating. Unfortunately in some of these places we didn’t have an appropriate material formulation until now!” Hotchkies concluded.
